Permit Requirements
Under 17 ½
Getting Started:
- Be at least 15 ½ but under 17 ½
- Complete an approved drivers' education course
- Complete the application form DL-44
- Have BOTH parents or guardians sign the application
At the DMV:
- Turn in application form DL-44
- Have at least one parent or guardian with you at the DMV
- Have TWO forms of ID to verify birth date
- Submit drivers' education certificate (OL-237)
- Show proof of enrollment in Drivers' Training (OL-392)
- Give a thumb print
- Have your picture taken
- Pay the $31.00 application fee
- Pass a vision exam
- Pass a 46 question written test, missing no more then 8 questions
After you get your Permit:
- You MUST have 6 hours of drivers' training
- You must have 50 hours of driving, 10 of it at night, with your parents or
guardians
- You must have your permit for 6 months and be at least 16 before you are eligible
for the drivers license
- You must make an appointment with DMV to take your drivers test. It can take
up to a month to get this appointment
- Show proof that you have completed Drivers' Training (OL-238)
- On your drivers test, you will be tested on basic maneuvers for about 10
minutes
You can make no more then 15 errors to pass this test
Once you have your Drivers License:
- Congratulations!
- During the first year of your drivers license, you may NOT have anyone
under 20 years old in the car with you, unless someone 25 or older is in a
position of control
- During the first year, you may NOT drive between the hours of 11:00 P.M. &
5:00 A.M. without an adult 25 years or older in a position of control
- Until you are 18 years of age you are on a provisional license. Your parents
have complete control of it. They can take your license away with one phone
call to the DMV
